Staying “Close” while Social Distancing
LITA exists to pair and train volunteers to bring the warmth and vitality of the Marin community directly to long-term care residents to lessen their feelings of loneliness and isolation.
But with residential facilities off-limits for the foreseeable future, our staff and amazing volunteers have been creative -- finding new ways to connect with residents while reassuring them that they will not be forgotten! Here are some new approaches we’re taking to improve the lives of residents in Marin’s long-term care facilities:
Virtual Park & Community Visits
Marin County is so beautiful, especially in the Spring, and again this year we’re working with the Marin County Parks Department on a Measure A grant, which allows us to bring residents and volunteers together for lovely days in nature.
In light of the new regulations we have revised our project to share LITA volunteers’ digital nature-walks and talks on YouTube, and also compiled a workbook about the parks and plants and animals that live there, all with the goal to help residents to virtually enjoy the outdoors.
LITA’s YouTube Channel
We have launched a LITA YouTube channel for Marin’s older adult residents which includes images and scenes from around Marin, videos of LITA volunteers, musical performances and more! We will continue to add new content to the Channel so that residents can be entertained and feel connected to both LITA and the Marin community.

Collecting Tablets for residents
A long-time LITA volunteer is helping us gather donations of iPads and other tablets that residents can use to watch the videos described above, and for Facetime calls with loved ones and LITA volunteers. If you would like to donate a table, please contact us for details.
